God's Spirit in you
In the Oscar Pistorius trial Gerrie Nel used heavy techniques. People did not agree on the ways in which Gerrie Nel pressured Oscar. Some said it was right to do so, because no matter what, the truth must come out. Others said Gerrie went too far and that Oscar’s human rights were being abused.
It doesn’t matter which side you are on, it doesn’t matter whether you want him to be found guilty or not guilty, everyone wants the truth to come out. And the only person who knows the truth is Oscar himself. He was there. With every step taken, with every action and with every time that the trigger was pulled, Oscar’s spirit was the only spectator. Oscar’s spirit knows every little detail of what happened that night and the whole world longs for Oscar’s spirit to stand up and proclaim the truth.
Each of us has our own spirit inside us. Our spirit who knows everything about us. No one knows the truth of our lives as well as our own spirit. Our spirit knows what we struggle with. Our spirit knows about those things that we hide deep in the dark. Our spirit knows about our fear that it will slip out one day. But our spirit also knows about the thing that we like. That which gives us peace, that which gives us rest. Yes, our spirit experiences everything with us and knows about every little bit of our lives. 11... Who knows what you’re thinking and planning except you yourself?
God also has a Spirit who knows exactly who God is and what He stands for. We call Him the Holy Spirit. He knows exactly what is going on in God’s heart. He knows that God loves people very, very much. He was there when God and Jesus made plans to save people who had lost the way. He was there when Jesus was nailed to the cross and breathed His last breath. He was there when Jesus ascended to heaven and sat on the right hand of God. He is also present when people walk into God’s court of justice and where one after another punishment is taken away just like that. The Holy Spirit knows everything there is to know about God: 10The Spirit, not content to flit around on the surface, dives into the depths of God, and brings out what God planned all along. Who knows what you’re thinking and planning except you yourself? 11The same with God ...
And God gave his Holy Spirit to each of us who believes in Him. God knew that we would struggle to understand. It’s difficult for a human being to understand those things outside his experience. Therefore God made a plan. He gave us the gift of his Spirit to help us understand Him: 12The same with God—except that he not only knows what he’s thinking, but he lets us in on it. God offers a full report on the gifts of life and salvation that he is giving us. We don’t have to rely on the world’s guesses and opinions.
What wonderful news! It shows us another piece of God’s heart. God is so different. Where will you ever find another god willing to give His Spirit to His children? Well, our God does it. Our God doesn’t want us stumbling around in the darkness because we don’t know Him. No, God wants us to get to know Him. Knowledge is very important in a good relationship. How can I work on my relationship with someone if I don’t know him or her? God knows this. Therefore, He makes a plan and sends His Spirit to live in everyone who believes in Him.
Then we can know God fully. We must give God space in our lives and allow His Spirit to work inside us.
Reflection
Do you have God’s spirit inside you?
Do you hear God’s Spirit?
What must you do to hear the Holy Spirit better?
Enjoy your weekend!
